Hi there! Choosing solid timber furniture isn’t just about style – it’s about embracing pieces that tell a story, wear in beautifully over time, and are built to last. Whether it’s a handcrafted dining table or a custom-made sideboard, a bit of care goes a long way. Here’s how to keep your furniture looking schmick for years to come.

First up, think about where it lives. Aussie-made timber furniture doesn’t get along well with harsh sun or wild swings in temperature and humidity. If you can, keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heaters or air con. A consistent spot with good airflow helps prevent cracking or warping.
For cleaning, don’t overthink it. A soft, damp cloth is your best mate. Skip the chemicals – they can mess with the finish and dry out the timber. A little mild soap in warm water will do the trick for tougher marks. Always wipe along the grain, and follow up with a dry cloth to keep things tidy.
Now and then, your furniture will need a bit of a refresh. Re-oiling or waxing once or twice a year keeps the timber nourished and looking its best. If you're not sure what to use, our own Ben Adams Furniture Wax is a great choice – it’s natural, made locally, and easy to apply.
Got a nick or a scratch? Don’t panic – wear and tear is part of the charm. A light sand with fine-grit paper can do wonders for blending in scuffs or shallow marks. Just remember to go with the grain, take it slow, and reapply a bit of wax or oil when you're done to bring the surface back to life.
If you’ve chosen sustainable timber, you’re already halfway there – looking after it just adds to the story. With a bit of ongoing TLC, your custom furniture will age gracefully and stick around for generations.
Check out the patina this little stool has developed over the years! We think all these little marks add to the character and story of each piece.
