FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Interested in having your own custom handmade furniture created for you, but wondering how it all works? We've put together some common questions and key information that will help you understand the process.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1.
Fill out the 'get a quote' form here with as much information as you can. Don't worry if you don't know all the answers, Ben will walk you through any details that you're not sure about.
2.
We will contact you within two business days to begin the conceptual design stage, taking your needs and budget into consideration to come up with a suitable concept. We will then produce a digital rendering of your piece for discussion and alteration. You can be involved in the design process as little or as much as you want.
3.
Once the design is finalised, a 50% deposit of the quoted price will be required to cement your commitment to the project. On receipt of the deposit, construction can begin.
4.
Ben will let you know once your piece is ready for inspection. You can view the piece and request any final adjustments. Once approved, Ben will complete your piece, send you the final invoice, and arrange a pick-up or delivery date.
WHAT KIND OF FURNITURE DOES BEN MAKE?
Ben Adams Studio makes contemporary minimalistic timber furniture that is both beautiful and practical and will last a lifetime. All product materials are sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly.
WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN BEN MAKE?
We also make homewares, and handmade heirloom gifts that your grandchildren will cherish. Check out the online store to see what's in stock, or request your own using the 'CUSTOM' page.
CAN I CUSTOMISE STOCK PIECES?
Yes. Any pieces in our online shop can be adapted and customised to your needs for an added fee. Simply email Ben with your request.
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED?
DO YOU USE RECYCLED/SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS?
We like to source timber as locally as possible. Some common species used in the shop are Tasmanian Oak, American Oak, Blackbutt, or Spotted Gum. We also work in steel fabrication, copper and bronze casting, and blacksmithing.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Crafting things by hand takes time, so depending on the time of year and current workload in the studio, your piece could take between 3 to 10 weeks to produce.
If you have a specific time frame for your piece, we will endeavour to accommodate for this as best we can. We will keep you informed on the progress of your piece throughout the project to make sure we realise your vision as faithfully as possible.
DO YOU DELIVER?
We can deliver locally around the Sunshine Coast region for a $100 delivery fee, or ship to anywhere in Australia. Shipping costs will depend on the size and weight of your item. Alternatively, you can pick up your items from our Montville studio, by appointment.
Wherever possible, we prefer to use reclaimed and recycled timber and metals.
CAN I VISIT THE STUDIO?
Yes, contact us to book a site visit to the studio workshop to see current projects or discuss your own concept. We can take appointments Mon-Friday during business hours.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Ben's workshop is in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland town of Montville. Visits are by appointment only.
HOW DO I WRITE A BRIEF?
Just head to the "CUSTOM" page and fill in all the details requested in the form. If there are questions that you cannot answer, you may leave them blank or simply answer "I'm not sure yet" and Ben will work with you to finalise those details later.
DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT?
A 50% deposit of the quoted price will be required to cement your commitment to the project, once the digital rendering of your design has been completed and agreed upon, and before materials are sourced and construction begins.
