Announcing the Montville Timber Trail Event

Following the massive success of the Makers’ Design Fair and the unfortunate cancellation of the beloved Maleny Wood Expo, a new chapter in our region’s craft story is about to begin. We are thrilled to announce the Montville Timber Trail, a collaborative event between Montville Woods Gallery and the Makers’ Design Fair, created to bring together woodworkers, designers, artists, and the wider community for a vibrant celebration of timber craft.

The Montville Timber Trail will take place 2nd–3rd May, 10am–4pm, right in the heart of Montville village. Set across several beautiful venues within easy walking distance of each other, the event has been thoughtfully designed to offer an immersive and inspiring journey through the world of woodworking and contemporary craft.

A Multi-Venue Experience in the Centre of Montville
Visitors will move effortlessly between three main locations:

St Mary’s Hall - Timber Sales
St Mary’s Hall will host an exciting selection of timber suppliers, making it a must-visit location for makers, furniture builders, and hobby woodworkers seeking beautiful locally sourced timber.

Montville Village Hall — Workshops, Tools & Woodworking Stalls
Just a short stroll away, the Village Hall will be alive with hands-on energy. Here, attendees can take part in woodworking workshops, browse stalls stocked with quality tools and supplies, and explore a selection of timber products made by talented local woodworkers. Food and drink will also be available, creating a relaxed, communal atmosphere for visitors to gather and connect.

Makers' Design Fair Gallery — Fine Furniture & Artisan Showcase
Next door to the Village Hall, the function room at The Edge will transform into the Makers’ Design Fair gallery space, featuring stalls with fine furniture, beautifully crafted timber objects, and work from exceptional local artisans. This is where design lovers will find the region’s best contemporary craft on display, from sculptural works to functional pieces that showcase the beauty and versatility of timber.

The Wootha Prize Returns — Now Part of the Montville Timber Trail
In a major step for the event, the prestigious Wootha Prize, one of Australia’s most respected woodworking awards, will now be hosted as part of the Montville Timber Trail.
The Wootha Prize Exhibition will be held just 500 metres down the road at Montvale at Montville, where entries will be displayed from 2–4 May. This addition elevates the Timber Trail as a significant new date in the national woodworking calendar.
A Collaborative Success Story
The Montville Timber Trail is the natural evolution of the Makers’ Design Fair, whose recent event drew crowds and overwhelming community support. Its success clearly demonstrated the region’s appetite for a dedicated celebration of timber craft, design, and creative culture.
When news broke that the Maleny Wood Expo would be cancelled for 2025, local makers, galleries, and community leaders came together to create something meaningful that could fill the void left in the maker community.
The collaboration between Montville Woods Gallery and Makers’ Design Fair brings together deep community roots, curatorial expertise, and a shared passion for craftsmanship.
A Weekend for Woodworkers, Makers, and Collectors, Alike
The Montville Timber Trail promises something for everyone, from hobbyist woodworkers and emerging makers to fine furniture collectors, design lovers, and curious visitors exploring Montville for the first time. With stalls, workshops, exhibitions, and Australia’s leading woodworking prize on display, the event is set to become a highlight of the hinterland’s cultural calendar.
Join us on 2–3 May in Montville village and experience the Sunshine Coast’s newest celebration of timber, creativity, and community.
